Lasix is an oral drug manufactured by Aventis Pharma Limited and containing as active substance Furosemide belonging to the group of loop diuretics. In medicine it is used to reduce the swelling and fluid retention caused by various medical problems, including heart or liver disease. It is also used to treat high blood pressure. Lasix causes the kidneys to lose the unneeded water and salt from the body into the urine. Lasix prevents the body from absorbing excess amounts of salt thus enabling it to pass through urine. Among bodybuilders and athletes it is widely used to excrete fluids from the body before contests and competitions. Lasix comes in boxes, each unit containing 12 pills (40 mg/pill).
bodybuilders and athletes rely heavily on Lasix when preparing for a contest. It can efficiently lower subcutaneous water concentrations, helping to produce that hard and ripped look on stage. Competitive athletes use Lasix to drop water weight, in an effort to make adjustments in their weight class standings. Since the weigh-in is most often a day or several days before a contest, bodybuilders can drop their bodyweight considerably and be back to normal within several hours after rehydration. There are also cases when athletes often use Lasix to lose weight and to compete in a lower weight class.
Lasix is much more frequently used by bodybuilders in oral form than as injectable. Persons usually start with a low dose of Lasix, and increase the amount slightly on subsequent days. The main goal in this case is to calculate the optimal dosage, as well as to determine the best intake schedule, in relation to a certain event or competition. The initial dosage of Lasix is usually 20 mg to 40 mg, and the maximum daily intake rarely exceeds 80 mg. In order to minimize the side effects associated with this Lasix usage, it is generally used for no longer than 4-5 days. Lasix tablet becomes effective about 1 hour after administration and remain active for another 3 or 4 hours. In order to counter the negative effects that Lasix has on potassium level it is recommended to use in combination with Aldactone (spironolactone).
There is a series of side effects that may occur while using oral Lasix. These side effects are: severe allergic reactions as rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. Some people may experience calf pain or tenderness, chest pain, coughing up blood, dark urine, decreased urination, fainting, fever, chills, or sore throat, hearing decrease or loss, numbness, burning, or tingling sensation, ringing in the ears, severe or persistent dizziness, severe or persistent stomach pain, shortness of breath, symptoms of dehydration or electrolyte problems or symptoms of high blood. The extended use of Lasix may lead to depletion of potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium.
